Miller has officially lost his mind. He's always been a conservative Dem, but he needs to just go ahead and formally change party affiliations now.

Why not just make it a 5-year waiting period? Or, better yet, outlaw divorces!!

Conjur, as the King of YAGT, you'd have to at least agree that some divorces could be stopped and relationships patched up if the spouses would have had a cooling period to think things through.

Once someone has it in their mind that divorce is the quickest way out of an emotional situation, often they try not to deal with the problems that are causing it in the first place. This just forces an attempt at reconciliation.

Although, I would rather just see the 180 day waiting period for those with children, no waiting period at all for those without, and a waiting period of 420 days before marriage.
The point: people generally don't make a snap decision to get a divorce. It usually comes after a lot of fights, counselling, talks, crying, maybe a trial separation, etc.

The bottom line is that this is not the government's business.

Unfortunately, make fun while you can and don't know any state laws....for instance, Virginia has a 6 MONTH waiting period for divorce. Georgia is actually in the minority when it comes to waiting periods for divorces. This is why Nevada is one of the top choices for getting a divorce.....no waiting at all.

Ahh, the good old Georgia legislature. At least the escort services can count on them for solid business when in session.

At least I live in a good county.

Cobb County Government leads by example with a conservative, common sense style of fiscal management. In fact, Cobb holds the highest credit rating of any government in the Southeast. Our Triple-Triple A status puts us among a very select group that includes less than one-half of 1% of counties nationwide.

Need figures?
Cobb?s 2004 estimated population 682,797? Georgia ?s third-largest county. Cobb is second in per capita income ($41,031)?with 2,955 new residential units permitted in 2003?.and $11.3 billion in retail sales. Cobb also boasted minimal unemployment of 3.9% in October 2003, and Georgia ?s highest percentage of college graduates?40%.

Our tax base is strong, diverse.
Cobb is home to world-class employers like GE Power Systems, IBM, Yamaha, and Georgia-Pacific Corp. But these major players account for a small percentage of the workforce. The rest of Cobb?s 385,574-person workforce depend on the other 34,000 businesses that drive our economy.

I wonder if a trend like this is going to sweep the nation? If so Reno might become the divorce captial of the US again, like back in the 50s. Either that, or people will wind up killing their to-be-divorcees just to get it over with. :p

On a side note, I go to school in Reno. We were watching the orginal Body Snatchers in class, shot in the 50s, but nobody really knew about the whole "Reno = divorce capital of the US" deal for those times. So imagine our amusement when we hear this exchange:

"I heard you were in Reno for a while."
"*sigh* Yes, I was."
"Mm. I spent a few months there myself."
"Oh. I'm sorry."

:D
