My brother set up the network on our computer using a Linksys 5 port hub...

We have cable modem...

For some odd reason, there are 2 network cards in my computer (he must've installed one for some unknown reason while setting it up)...

I'm no networking genius but shouldn't it run like this: Cat5 from Surfboard to Uplink slot in router, than Cat5 from Slot 1 to Computer 1 and Slot 2 to Computer 2???

It keeps giving me messed up errors, but when I run the modem directly to the computer, it works fine.

For weeks now its been really crappy going in and out constantly, and he had it ran really friggin weird... Surfboard to computer 1 card 1, comp 1 card 2 to hub port 1, and hub port 2 to comp 2...

If anyone needs clarification please ask, and if you have any advice please repsond. Thanks

Jack has some great links. I'd also suggest removing the second ethernet card if it's not in use. I've encountered some interesting (and difficult to troubleshoot) problems with computers running 2 interfaces like that. Simplify the situation as far as possible.

Make sure both comp's are running DHCP and you don't have any static IP's assigned in the network to avoid conflicts.

A simple arrangment like this should work for your network:
Cable Modem > Hub Uplink Port > Computer 1 to any available hub port - Computer 2 to any available hub port.

Please post the exact errors you're getting if this doesn't resolve the issue.
