It's been coming a while now, and now I've just finished updating my resume, I just wanted everybody's experience with looking for a new job, how they best went about it, methods, etc.

I am obviously looking for a job in the tech industry, as a Windows Network Admin (I have a few misc certs), so please keep that in mind.

I love my current job (and I know I'm very well loved there), but my commute of 1.5 hours+ each way is a killer, and with gas prices getting no lower, I want something within arms reach of my home. I figure this will give me a raise of $2000-$3000 a year by itself -- I spend upwards of $300 a month on gas alone, averaging 27mpg in my Mazda3 (I still have a lead foot). That's about $3600 a year in just gas, and that's JUST for work. I figure I spend a few hundred more than that given I use the car to tool around town and especially in the wintertime.

Anyhoo, any help is appreciated here. I got this job because my dad had a friend, who had a friend... you know how it works Also, I was not sure to put this on my resume... but I was 'Employee of the Month' a while back, but I later learned that I was the first person in the history of the company to achieve that honor in less than a year of being employed, in the company's 10 year history.

Thanks for all your help, it's really appreciated!

I find it odd that you'd sooner quit your job than to driver with a lighter foot.

If you love your job so much and you think you have some good security there...then move closer. Problem solved.

I have no FUTURE there. As much as I could contemplate moving closer, my rent situtation (low) is too good to leave for a job that ultimately, won't give me the raises I need to survive with a future family or whatever. I am looking for a FUTURE, not just to be complacent.
