Okay ... stupid formatting question

Okay, its time to tear my PC apart so I can part it ... if I format the HD that the OS is on ... what happens? will it even finish the format? If I cant do it that way ... how do I do it?

You have to format it outside of Windows. You can format the drive using Windows setup CD if you have that or download a bootable CD with drive utilities on it.
 
Download the Ultimate Boot CD file and create the disk. That bootable CD will give you all the HDD tools outside of Windows you'll probably ever need.
