You can use different drivers in both OSs but I reccomend the same for both, 10.80s. 7.52s weren't too bad either, and didn't have the odd Sacrifice glitch(see below) but the 10.80s cleaned up the control panel a bit.

For Win98 it's the same install as always. For Win2K for some d@mn reason I could only install them over a prior Det3 version(they are beta). Haven't had any stability problems at all with anything that I can remember under Win2K or Win98(though not a lot of testing under Win9X). The glitch in Sacrifice- occasionaly for some d@mn reason the lighting and "scars" switch to per polygon instead of pixel. Real weird seeing rituals with per poly lighting or battlefields with square edges to the pools of blood.

I'm expecting the official Det4s early next week(leaked, but official build).

BTW- You pick up a new monitor too? Or are you tollerating the problems the board has with yours?

Yo Robo,
You took the words out of my mouth. I recently got a GF2 GTS and going through this BS about finding out the best driver. Here is what I have so far:

Used the latest driver from my card manu--Asus V7700 --Similar to Det 3 5.X - 3DMark2000=5400
Used Det 3 6.31 --better then 5.X --3DMARK2000=5900
Used Det 3 6.50 --better then 6.31--3DMARK2000=6700~6840
Used Det 3 10.8 --same as 6.5 --3DMARK2000= ~6770

I'm running windows98se. Someone help me out here...what is the best beta drivers out there?

Just a slight word of warning, that you probably are going to do anyway.
Since you had a 3dfx card, best way to switch is to reformat and do a clean install.
New card may work fine without reformatting, but best performance and stability are only achieved after reformatting.

BTW, I've been using 6.47 since the day they came out, and they perform perfectly. (WinME/Win98se).

The bottom line is you will get different replies since every system is slightly different, however I use 6.50 drivers(Win98 OS1),btw so far I`ve never had any problems with Nvidia drivers so it`s down to personal choice between stabilty & speed with all those Nvidia drivers to choose from.

I hear ya

that's one of the primary reasons I dumped my old GTS Pro

I'm banking on driver improvements these days.

From the looks of things, 10.80 seems to be the top dawg these days....

check sig for current rig. Thx.

I like to stick with the official nVidia drivers myself. I use the 6.50's in Windows 98, and the 6.31's in Windows 2000. I tried the 6.50's in Windows 2000, but I got lockups all the time. The whole nVidia driver thing is a pain in the ass. It's nice to have new drivers, but it seems there is a new nVidia one out like every two days.

Ben,

I haven't picked up a new monitor, as the card hasn't arrived yet

i'm gonna see if it has the same issue, and if so, I'll pick up a new monitor. I will get a refurbished one from....shiznit, can't remember, it'll be a shadow mask tho.

totally weird. You post is showing pu as being one of the earliest, in fact, right after mine, yet I didn't see yours AT ALL today until just now.

very weird.

6.5 seem to be what most techs use. Of course there are always new drivers coming out that people feel they "need" get.

Robo-

I saw your comment for me to answer your question in the other thread and was thinking you had really lost it;)

I was the first person to respond to you, odd glitch that the first reply doesn't show(I've seen the problem with replies 50,100,150 not showing up, but not 1:)

I'm hearing good things about the 11.0s, but infortunately no Win2K version leaked yet and I don't have any Win9X machines running any nVidia boards handy at the moment. Monday we should see a "proper" leak with the official build of the Detonator4s(though not likely posted on nVidia's site quite yet).

I'm using the 752's with my Elsa GTS, running Win98SE. Only because, by comparisons I've seen on the web, these seem to be abit faster in most areas then the others while also being very stable. I was using the 650's before and had no problems at all with them. Between the 650's and the 752's, I didn't really see any major differences, as far as what I do on my PC.

Quite honestly I've found all of the drivers to suck except for the 6.72 drivers. The best combo is Windows 98 SE + DirectX 7a + 6.72 drivers.

Keep in mind that I still have a corrupted Start Menu at times and occasionly get minor 2D glitches. It's nothing too serious but that Start Menu is really starting to irritate me. :(

I use the 10.80 drivers in Win98SE with DirectX 8.0A installed, and they've been rock-stable for me. They gave me a 300 point boost in 3DMark 2001 over the 6.34 drivers.

10.80 here. Only problem I noticed is that they forced me to decrease my memort oc'ing on my GF2 GTS by 10Mhz due to artifacts, yet I still got the same FPS as with the 6.47's.. therefore these drivers are faster than the 6.47's and will yield noticeable improvement for those not overclocking and the same for those who do, plus adding DX8 support.

It seems like this question is asked every couple days. Kinda getting annoying now. Dont any of you check posts for previous days/weeks? Its getting redundant. If you dont know which drivers are best, instead of wasting your time posting on a forum and waiting days/hours for replies. Why dont you just download them and try each of them. It takes like 5-10 mins....
