Okay, so I have a lot of free time nowadays and I want to learn to play the guitar

Now that I'm a sober college dropout bum, I need something to occupy my time. I've always wanted to learn to play an instrument so I decided hell now's the time, I'm gonna learn to play the guitar. Cool, how?

After I get some cash flowing in I plan on doing a lil guitar shopping. What kind of things should I look for? And I know there are programs out there to teach you, any worth a damn?

1. Scales... Learn them.
2. Chords... Learn them.
3. Tabs... Learn to read them
4. Use chords to form songs
5. ???
6. Profit

start with a nice cheap acoustic, should run you about 150 bucks. don't rely on any programs and such. imho the best way is to take lessons for a month or so then figure the rest out on your own

I should look into this as well...I have a very pretty guitar sitting in the other room that hasn't been touched in 2 years, lol.

I kinda wish I woulda take lessons when I started bass. It's just hard to know if you're doing things correct technically if you teach yourself. I'd take lessons first to learn the very basics, as they're more important in guitar than in bass.

So you do/did drugs, drop out of school, get kicked to the curb by your parents, get disqualified by the Air Force and this is your next move?

n/m apparently you got a job.

go to a music store that sells guitars, get a cheap one that looks good, get a method book or two, and start playing. then join the ultimate guitar forums and start learning stuff.
