Report: South Korean navy ship sinks
A South Korean navy ship sank in the Yellow Sea near North Korea early Saturday, and the navy shot at an unidentified ship toward the north, according to reports quoting South Korean government officials.

Not funny.

If it is true that an NK sub sunk a SK ship today and this escalates...you know who gets dragged into the mess!

Obama doesn't exactly scare away challenges and sketchy behavior from enemies (he reserves his business end for friends and allies). Maybe the US will send over a boat with a lesbian captain and the crew can chant "shame! at the NKs.

I guess that's what happens when the previous administration ties up your armies with two superfluous wars. You're not as credible to deter other threats. :\

That and bowing down to the leaders of weaker nations.

Diplomacy is the art of saying "nice doggy" while you reach for a stick. Obama said "nice doggy" and, reaching back, discovered that there were no more sticks.

Now the dog is peeing on our faces. Which, to be sure, some here enjoy, but ultimately it is the lack of sticks that has to be blamed for the golden tint of our showers.

Except he never said "nice doggy" he got down on his hands and knees and pretended to be one.

I guess he was trying to maintain some kind of continuity from the last administration? Dogs often fetch shoes for their benevolent owners.

Don't worry bro. How long did it take to conquer Iraq? Like 2 weeks? Occupation of Iraq takes a lot of people and a lot of money, but destroying their entire military and killing the entire government body can be done quite easily. If NK gets all uppity, I'm sure the US military could easily destroy their entire military, all industry, their entire power generation grid, and even wipe out the water distribution system. Once all that shit is gone, they're not a threat to anyone. No occupation required.

Iraq is occupied because it has oil. There's actually a reason someone would want to fix that place. North Korea produces nothing and nobody likes them. There is no reason anyone would want to occupy North Korea. Just smash their shit and call it a day.

Sounds good to me. NK needs to go.

With China as our financier and NK's buddy I doubt the US will be "smashing their shit" any time soon.

You internet tough guys need to do some reading on your fantasy conflicts before getting all puffed up.

There are over 10,000 artillery pieces dug into the mountains pointed at Seoul, even nukes couldn't stop them from leveling the entire city. They've been preparing for war longer than a lot of us have been alive.

Oh yeah, not to mention they have their own nukes now.

In short, shut the fuck up, you pussies aren't going to be doing any fighting and don't have the slightest idea what you're talking about.

Wait - you think invading two countries makes you LESS of a credible deterrent?

Interesting idea. I suppose to really put the fear of G-d into North Korea we should disband our military completely.

Doesn't NK have nuclear weapons now? Are we sure they are completely unable to deliver even one to our territory? Could they deliver one to Tokyo just to piss us off?

This. Any open war between NK and SK would be a massacre.

And China is not NK's buddy. How the fuck do you get that idea?

If China tries to flood the market with US dollars and crash the US economy, China's industry would be ruined. Factories would shut down, unemployment would go way up. Taking out the US would cost China literally trillions of dollars. USA and China are friendly because the two countries need each other to survive at this point. Nobody relies on North Korea. Nobody will care if it gets wiped off the map.

Maybe a few shitty ones they can't deliver except by semi-truck.

The main concern is if they decide to open up on Seoul with MLRS or some of the big artillery pieces they've got. Conceivably they could use the guns to deliver gas or nerve agent against the South Korean population but that runs a major risk of US nuclear retaliation.

Yeah, Seoul would sustain heavy damage, even moderate damage in the most optimistic situation.

But you know what? When push comes to shove one city taking heavy damage is worth the safety of the whole country.

If they wanted to they could start moving people to different cities (something that couldn't make NK attack without being a pure, baseless aggressor to the world) and then on their own declare that since NK sunk one of their ships it is an act of war and go into heavy combat with the US aiding by showering missiles and bombs (seriously, if we weren't so fucked up we could do that for two days and leave). Minimizes casualties, destroys NK.

No, the invasions make us seem unpredictable and irrational, which is helpful, but the fact that those wars are still going on makes us seem more vulnerable.
