okay, let's clear this up. A4 = Passat or Jetta; and A6 = Passat or none of the above

I have heard quite a few ppl who think the A4 is the Jetta while the A6 is the Passat while the majority is A4 = Passat, A6 = nothing from VW. And Jetta's platform = Golf, Gti, Beetle, and TT.

okay, pls post your thoughts on this.

Very old thread, but, since people are responding with pertinent info, moving it to the Garage.

Straight from the horses mouth (wanna be confused?)

Chassis: A4
Cars: Golf, GTI, Jetta

Chassis: B5/B5.5
Cars: Passat, A4, A4 Avant

So the A4 dosent use an A4 platform :)

You all are wrong :)

Jetta/Golf/A3/TT/New Beetle all use the Golf platform

A4/A6/Passat all use the '96 - '01 A4 platform. I believe that the '02 A4 uses a newer or updated variant of that platform.

They use the MK IV Golf platform. Just saying Golf could imply that the 1974 Golf chasis would work. My car uses the MK II chasis.

I think it's understood that when a car company uses a platform, it doesn't use one that is 28 years old.

Considering the people I have call me at work all day I assume nothing is understood.

Also it could be a car like the Cabrio that used the MK I chasis until 93 and then moved to the MK III chasis. It never used the MK II or MK IV.

the A4 has its own platform because no VW platform has the 4 link front suspension. And I also think that the A6 is no Passat platform

Golf Platform= Bora (Jetta), Beetle, Audi TT, A3, Seat Leon, Skoda Octavia, Touran

Passat= Skoda Supreme, and I dunno

The (previous generation) A4, and Passat and the A6 all share the B5 platform. The A4 being the smallest, and the others are obviously lengthened.

i believe its call the A4 platform, not golf platform

the passat and audi a4 is currently on the B5.5 platform since 2001.5 i believe

and yes, VW and Audi's do share platforms, TT and the Jetta (bora), Golf, and NB share the A4 (not audi A4) platform

The A4, A6 and Passat all share the same platform.

The Jetta, New Beetle and Golf all share the same platform.

someone from another board told me this:

The Jetta, Audi TT, and Golf are based on the A4 platform (4th gen A)

The A4 and Passat are based on the B platform

The A6 is based on the C platform

The A8 and VW Phaeton are based on the D platform.

and remember the Phaeton was originally codenamed D1?

He's wrong. The A4, A6 and Passat are all based on the B5 platform.

You forgot Seat Toledo. And Touran uses the next-generation platform (the same that will be used in the new VW Golf)

Passat= Skoda Supreme, and I dunno

Skoda Superb actually :). Also Audi A4.
