Okay. I need help getting rid of fireplace smoke smell.

A friend decided it would be a good idea to have a fire in my apt in the fireplace. He built a fire, and did something wrong, because smoke was billowing everywhere (the flap thing in the fireplace was open, I think it was the synthetic log or something). now my apt smells like smoke. I've vacuumed twice, dusted twice, and tried leaving the windows open.

What can I do to get rid of the smell??

ozone generator
dont breathe it
and i dont know where you can get one...a specialty cleaning shop may have one, or a drycleaners (we have one at work)

ditto... look for some place that will rent one to you. Or, figure out how to build your own.

um.. his dad has one. His dad owns a carpet cleaning company.. he offered to come clean everything but since I'm moving out in a month it didn't seem worth it. How long does the thing have to run? How long do I have to leave?

Wash the walls and ceiling. Clean the woodwork with Murphy's oil soap and steam clean the carpets.

Or light a couple of aromatherapy candles and deal with it until it fades.

are candles any better than the plug in things?

I think they are, but then, I dig candles.
Good incense will do the trick as well....preferably cones over sticks.

My husband builds ozone generators for a living. Though they arent the dry cleaners size.. More of industrial size for large companies. Though they use them to purify water, they have sold a few smaller scale ones to treat smoke damaged furniture. 🙂
