Okay, I have to be doing something wrong here.

Not sure which forum this belongs in... Networking? Apple forums?

Okay so basically, I have a PC (Windows 7) and my Mac Mini. I turned on the VNC server on the Mini and connected to it using TightVNC.

The performance is absolutely terrible. It's unuseable. The two computers are on a 100 mbit local network, so it's not like I don't have the bandwidth to share a screen. Alternatively, LogMeIn.com's performance is extremely smooth. This makes no sense! LogMeIn centralizes the information on their servers, so there's an extra hop between my two computers, yet it STILL outperforms VNC?

Something must be wrong.

Have you tested it with other VNC clients? Have you tried using other VNC servers?

The centralized servers basically let you know where the computer is that you are trying to connect to. Once you have that information, it is basically a link between your two computers.
