Okay, honestly ... just how bad does Intel i845 video suck?

I've got a poor, poor friend who stupidly bought a shiny new Compaq box with all the trimmings. I was busy looking it over and thinking "nice" ... then I saw the VGA cable jacked straight into the motherboard.

Oh god no. He didn't. Please tell me he's not that dumb.

right-click, properties, advanced

"Intel Extreme Integrated Video"

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Okay, anecdote over. Just how bad does this core suck? Having never used one, I wouldn't know. Bottom line - is Q3A playable at 640x480 (60fps?) and will C&C Generals work?

Thanks.

Well, it can hit 60 in 800x600x16bit.

If Generals can tread water at 30fps in the same settings, that would suffice. :p

Edit - BTW, you still suck at the internet. Try an HTTP, not HTTPS :p

not bad. used it for 3 months before i picked up a 9700pro. played NWN, WC3, and battlefield 1942 decently.

no AA, no AF, and low resolution though.

certainly not as bad as I was led to believe

I've yet to crack it open to check for the presence of an AGP slot. (Intel 845G has one, 845GL doesn't.)

But in the meantime, it's good to know he won't be able to blame his low fragcount on his framerate. :D

I have something similar with a Dell 2350 with Intel integrated video. (845GL)

Specs:

2.0 ghz Celeron
512 DDR PC2100 RAM
Intel integrated video

Scored 1109 on 3dMark2001 SE. Even WC3 won't play at a respectable resolution/detail.

To put this in perspective, my laptop, Dell 2650 1.6ghz celeron, 512DDR, Geforce 2 Go GPU, is faster.

Scored 1480 on 3dMark2001 SE.

If you're stuck without a AGP slot and want to use the machine for gaming, definitely consider investing in the Radeon 9100 PCI 128mb on sale at Compusa for $79.99 after MIR.

Yes, Extreme Graphics. May I once again remind you that every range has two extremes ... graphics card performance being no exception. So in pure mathematical terms, they aren't even lying ...
