I posted before whether to get a 750 or 850 PS and have decided to get the 850 but looking through the units at Newegg there are 3 choices on the Corsair 850, HX,TX and AX.

I have a 650 HX in a system right now and it has been flawless but the AX is $10 more after rebate on the 850; then again, the TX is $131 after rebate vs $160 w\ rebate on the AX. The AX is the only unit w\ 4 eggs vs the other 2 w\ 5.

They are all good units but which should I go with?

Even though the AX is $10 more I am leaning toward the HX since I have one and no troubles and the 5 egg rating.

The AX-850 has a 80 PLUS Gold rating; the HX-850 has a 80-PLUS Silver rating. The AX-850 is made by Seasonic, as is the HX-650 you have. According to the conclusion of this review, the HX achieved similar results compared to the more expensive AX:

The TX is made by CWT (older platform), not as highly regarded as Seasonic. (edit: the new TX750 V2 is made by Seasonic.)

Are you running dual graphics cards?

Thx stargazr. No 2x video cards at the present just one gtx480 but in a year I thought i might try sli out. I have another thread concerning the whole sli vs single gpu thread going and had decided to get the 850W instead of the 750 just in case I did decide to try sli out in the future.

Btw, i am currently gathering components for the build, PS is the only thing left to buy.

I'd get the AX, its much smaller then the HX and its full modular, The TX is a budget psu imho, there are just too many cables attached to it, unless you have a big case like the 800D that allows to hide the cables that prevent airflow

The AX-850 has a 80 PLUS Gold rating; the HX-850 has a 80-PLUS Silver rating and both are made by Seasonic, as is the HX-650 you have.

HX850 is 80Plus Gold certified (although Corsair chose to label it as Silver to be sure all units would meet spec) & made by CWT.

Uh the HX850 is gold for the specific sample they sent. They don't guarantee that for all versions at all. Most companies cheat and say all their psus are gold even if half actually aren't. Corsair is far more legit than most.
Anyways if you're debating between HX and AX, it's all about if you prefer CWT or Seasonic. Personally I prefer the Seasonic for the much higher quality fan and fanless operation, but both psus are good beyond hat aspect. The TX is clearly if you don't care about modular.

The TX650V2, TX750V2, and TX850V2 are all based on a new Seasonic platform.
