Are these the newer "improved" version? I bought one of the newer models and don't like the feel of the wheel compared to my older mouse; the wheel has lots of free play and wobbles side to side. I checked Officedepot.com but they only show the older model for $25.

My OD BM had the Ms optical mouse (New Improved Version) for $19.95. These are not the optical intellimice. However they did have the new and old version (take your pick style for $19.95).

The explorer also has 2 more buttons and a press-in mouse wheel (making a third extra button) and has a red bottom, plus seems more smooth and comfy in general.

MS seems to be revamping their mouse/trackball lineup receintly with an emphasis on the optical products. The new style MS mice may have an improved optical device but the plastic shells and wheel mechanism have been downgraded in my opinion. I think that MS is their desire to lower the price some, cheaped out the product too much. I have one of the old Intellimouse w/Intellieye models and the wheel mechanism has a very solid feel compared to the new replacement model I bought for another system. Just my $0.02
