Well... if you want to get technical. When you have a tear in the skin, platelets do show up to blug the hole in a sense. When platelets are around a growth factor called Platelet Derived Growth Factor (pGF) stimulated mitosis in the surrounding cells to get the cells to divide. However, there are also things called contractile fibers that pull the skin together. It's a whole bunch of things but I gave you the basics.
