ok wtf is wrong with my dvdrw drive?

I have a Nec 3500-ag everything was working perfect...until I restarted my computer and now my computer is showing up now as a removable harddisk I'm running windows xp sp2. I enabled Extended System Configuration Data then everything worked again....then restarted again and now it's back to the removable harddisk again. I checked disk management and it's not there. Then I checked device manager and it's under the disk drive. Should I uninstall it from device manager and then install it again?....What should I do?

did you try uninstalling the drive and reinstalling in dev. manager? how about unplugging and plugging it back into the ide cable? can you try a restore point? how about a xp repair, not reinstall but repair? just trying to help i have no idear.

I uninstalled and installed it but it appears as a removable harddisk again. The drivers can't find the dvd rom.
I'm going to disable my extra harddrive since it's set as a slave restart uninstall restart see if it shows as a dvd rom again.

It showed up as a dvd rom after I restarted installed the new drivers for the dvd rom enabled my other hd and then POS windows starts up it's found new hardware and changes my dvd rom into a disk drive!!!!!!!!

Is their a way to disable the found new hardware pos?

hmm, by any chance have you been using an external hard drive or USB flash memory before this happened?

why is that when i build a computer for someone else it runs smooth as glass....but, when the computer is for me I always end up getting problems god hates me 🙁
