Maybe this bothers me more than it should, but I see it too much, and I just wanna slap somebody.

I understand you're used to neckbeard, being from ATOT and all, but some of us prefer to be well groomed.

It's backlash against neckbeards. I keep my neck shaved (well, clippered with no guard) up to ~1" from my jawline. It's easy to overdo it, especially if you make the rookie mistake of going too far on one side and trying to even it out for symmetry. Anyway, the alternative is to have hair down to and on my adam's apple, which just isn't very pretty.

Cheeks shouldn't be shaved though, anything more than clipping off stray hairs above the regular beard line tends to look bad.

I notice this trend in people with very/overly strong jawlines; a couple Polish-Americans I've known, for example. It basically retains the masculine contour while obscuring the sharp edge that could get someone called a squarehead.

EDIT: But that refers more to the very trim form of the cheekbeard. The examples you're showing are different from what I'm thinking of.

The chin strap is distinct from the cheek beard. I'm not find of the former, either, but I think at least looks a little more considered and self aware.

I was giddy with the prospect of posting a lucas pic as a great example. Scrolled down and saw it in the OP and disappointed myself :(

They think it gives them a jawline if they don't have one.

It obviously doesn't and is very obvious.

I've had a beard like that (although with more substantial sideburns than that pencil thin look) for probably 10-15 years. Wasn't new when I started either. I've never had any complaints. Looks normal.

It's almost like a comb over for your face, to hide the complete lack of a jaw line. If you have a face like that, just don't grow a beard, as you are either going to end up with a fabricated jaw line, or a bulbous neck beard.

Disagree. For myself, I have pretty strong features and it just seems more natural this way.

When I grew my beard out a few years ago I hated the neck part of it. It gets so itchy there that if I wanted to keep it at all it was basically required that I shave my neck.

It is possible to do without looking like a douche though.
