My system is in my sig. this is how it is normaly with my crappy stock paste but now that it shouldnt be running this hot with the ceramique I just applied (correctly according to arctic silvers site). I Have a vantec aeroflow HSF. Any tricks to cool my beast down?

Anyone else use the this stuff and does it actually make a 2-10 c difference as stated on their site?

I am using some AS3 now, if any one went from AS3 to the Ceramique, post your temp changes please.

Thanks!

what are your case temps? what about ambient room temp? depending on what those temps are, your temps don't look too bad, especially if your mobo reads cpu temps accurately.

what is the cpu temp under load? does the case temp drop significantly when you remove the side panel?

10C seems a little...over stated, couple..3 maybe is a bit more logical imo..

I see that your primary expectation is for the reading to go down because you're using thermal grease instead of the phase-change thermal compound.

Keep in mind that the temperature reading you're watching is NOT the CPU's core temperature. It's the temperature of the air in the CPU socket, possibly with a fudge factor thrown at it. If your CPU temperature did drop 10C, you would probably see far less than 10C drop in the socket's air temperature, particularly since the thermistor where the reading comes from is soldered to the surface of the mobo, which blunts the effect of a change by acting as a heatspreader.

The CPU's core diode reading is usually not revealed to the end user, but only to the emergency-shutdown circuitry on the mobo.

Bigger picture: 43C to 46C isn't cause for alarm on any SocketA motherboard I can think of.

It was at 49 under load. The case temp with the side panel on said 35c but thats when i First booted. Not sure about the room temp.

That temp is fine...don't worry about it.

I run an xp 2400+ using the Vantec AeroFlow VA4-C7040 HSF, I usually have an idle of 36 ¢ªC and on full load i get to about 44¢ªC to 46¢ªC.

Im not even using Arctic Silver I dont know the name of the grease im using.

I would try re-installing it and cleaning the bottom of the HS really polished. Then try another mabye thicker or thinner application of the grease whatever you think and see if it makes a difference.

Some HS,s operate better with varied amounts of Thermal Grease.:)

I think with a case temp of 35C, your temps are normal. Its not winter anymore.........:D

Well its just that I see all these people with temperatures like 36 with the same hsf. I want those temps too.

oh well, different mb's read temps differently...

Plus, your case temp was 35C when starting up, and after running your computer for a while, that number has probably gone up.

it is summer, comparing temps with other mb's is wrong as is, but factor in summer as well and your temps are just fine.

My computer has been on now for four hours now. It went up to 37. I live in washington so it isnt really all that hot here. Its probably 75 (degrees ferenheit). But yeah your probably right. Im going to either get an abit nf7 or an a7n8x within the next couple of months and I will probably get a better reading. Thanks fir the help.

Alright I think that my HSF is just pressing down too hard (these aeroflows really REALLY clamp down hard) so tomarrow Im going to GLOB it on there real good. I tried applying it thinner and at first it seemed to work better but now I am getting 48C idle.

You can't expect your CPU to run cool in a hot case. My case temps are 28 when I start it up and never go above 32. If you either improve your case cooling or turn up the A/C, I can almost guarantee your CPU temps will go down too.
