OK...why the heck do we need 512MB of RAM????

I'm running Win2000 Pro regular ACPI HAL install

No particular tweaking.

I have RealMagic DVD station running to display a DVD on my TV while I play games.

I have my logitech iTouch software loaded, SBLiveWare, 3dfx Tools, Adaptec DirectCD, Norton AntiVirus and ICQ.

I'm running Starcraft Broodwar (in B.net chat)
Diablo2 in a single player game
And quake3 hosting a server with a couple bots runnign around

I am at 375890kB used (according to Win2k taskman)

That's D2 and Q3A, two of the most memory hungry games out there, and I can't even run out my 384MB...let alone 512MB...

what do you people do with it all?

(unless you are a server or some kind of graphis workstation)

I have it just to say I do. Eventually I will use it all or at least most of it. I like the sound of "half gig of ram" when someone asks how much ram I have.

Dunno. That is why I am trying to change my order to only include 1 stick of the good stuff instead of 2 256mb of Crucial.

I could probably get by with only 128MB RAM using WinME and only 256MB using W2K.

But when it's only $172 for two 256MB PC133 CAS2 (click my sig) then it's too much to resist.

Is that because of taxes? If so they sure do suck don't they? Thankfully Oregon has 0.00 sales tax

If you're going to wait I wouldn't wait for too long, I saw another thread where 256MB PC133 RAM was $87 I can't remember from which vendor but I would visit the Hot Deals forum and type in 256MB as your search criteria.

I have 256MB of Micron/Crucial PC133.

I also have 128MB of semi-gerenic (though it's athlon certified) PC100.

I'm going to ditch my 128MB for another 256MB of micron.

I'm just wondering if anyone can give a me a reason where I might use it all I'm sure I'll get to eventaully lol

That's exactly what I did, now I have 128MB RAM if I decide to build a Linux box or I can sell it on FleaBay when prices go back up around June.

To be totally honest I can't think of a single practical use for 512MB RAM but you might as well get it when it's cheap and the next time someone asks you how much RAM you have. You could reply with a smirk, "Half a Gig".

You wouldn't believe how much faster TMPGEnc encodes with 384megs of RAM than 128.

I'm selling my 128MB stick to my old roommate who only has 128MB now. He's probably ok as he's not in Win2k...but when WinXP comes he'll definatley watn more.

LOL gotta love bragging rights, my roommate has an Athlon 650 so I just had to get something faster, a better CD-RW and more RAM than he does. Otherwise I just couldn't live with myself.
