OK - Why is Fry's so much more $$$ than Newegg for 2.53 GHz CPU?

According to their websites and confirming telephone calls, Newegg and Fry's Outpost have the following prices for a 2.53 GHz P4:

Version.....Fry's Outpost.....NewEgg.....Difference
Tray..........$210..................$187..........$23
Boxed.......$230..................$188..........$42

Why the huge difference? Could the Newegg version be an older stepping than the SL6S2?

I really want a 2.4 Ghz SL6RZ but I have given up trying to buy one. Looks like, from other posts, the 2.53 SL6S2 will also be an outstanding overclock at just a few bucks more. However, I want to be reasonably sure I will get a SL6S2 or I am right back to where I started with my attempts to buy an SL6RZ.

Barryng,
Hang in there. I will go to Fry's this weekend to see do they have the SL6RZ. The bad thing is I have to buy it to find out🙁, they won't check for me. IF they sell it at my fry's, I can buy one for you and you pay me back and gas money. 🙂

EDIT: BTW the oem price for the 2.4b at Fry's is 169.99 before taxes. The tax in CA is 8.25% :disgust:

I certainly appreciate the offer. Please email me at rhoxs@hotmail.com. When I get home from work about 0000 EST I will get back to you (I cannot access this account at my work location). If the Newegg prices are good prices for a 2.53 SL6S2, I think I will go with that instead. However, a $42.00 delta is compelling to stay with the 2.4. Thanks again.

Be careful with newegg. They have still been shipping
2.4b with the BO stepping. I just got one myself a few
days ago.

The Fry's here in Austin had the 2.53 C1 with Multiple VID's
I just bought one this morning for 209.99 + Tax.
