I am confused, is the newest one 4th gen or 3rd gen??

EDIT: I am talking about the 20GB version, not the new smaller ones
 
1st gen: the dial would physically spin
2nd gen: dial was like a touchpad
3rd gen: the 4 buttons above the dial

i believe 3rd gens are the latest.
 
The 3rd Gen are the newest one's (other than the mini's). The 3rd Gen has the touch buttons as well as the touch wheel.
