Only a year? What we you doing before then?

The earliest date I recall for its perdicted arrival was the 4th quarter of 2002. Were you expecting it before then? AMD pushed the date back to September of this year I believe. In any case, you wouldn't be able to use the 64ness of it until MS creates a new version of Windows for it.

Thats why it's being delayed. MS is having problems with Windows "AMD64" as some call it...

Microsoft are not saying anything at this point, but I understand that there are no delays on Microsoft's part.

There is no point releasing an Operating System without the processor, and AMD, for various reasons, can't release the processor until September.

Even then, you need to wait for hardware vendors to write 64-bit drivers for their hardware, so it would be quite a bit of time after September until you see the full potential of the Athlon 64.

thats possible
i mean ocing ppl are getting like 2300+mhz lol....its probably good until atleast 2200mhz (which, for barton, still leaves many more speed upgrades)

yup, i read that too
but unfortunately, i believe the yields were for K8 chips at 800MHz, not 2GHz

i don't think there could be such a large gap in the yields.. over 100% clockspeed.. nahh
prolly 1.6.
