Bulbs for most projection tvs, front OR rear, lcd, dlp, doesn't matter it will have a bulb in them that needs to be replaced every 2000 hours or so, or sooner in some cases. Most of which cost anywhere from $130-$600 With a Zenith DLP 53" in a box being the cheapest Ive seen for rear, and most Epson LCD projectors right around that price. But it doesnt matter what the cost is really for 2000 hours isnt all that much, the bulbs put out a crap load of heat, and cost an arm and a leg, where in some cases cost as much or more then the projector itself, its like ink carts for Lexmark and HP printers.

But my beef is, I was just neffing on the internerd and come across THIS.

Looking at the picture they look pretty damn bright, and it got me thinking, if they can make one tiny little led light be that bright, and that white, why cant they make it for projection tv's?? They would outlast the projector, we wont be constrained or have to worry every time we turn out set on "Is this the time my bulb is going to blow?" or "Its been sitting there doing nothing for 15 minutes I better turn it off and conserve my bulb life.

I mean come on, some one here with the skills, buy these, find a way to tap these into a projector that will trick it into thinking it has a working bulb in it to keep the power flowing to it, and make a few million in the process. I will be your first customer!

Any way, rant over, I just had to let it out after seeing the picture of that one bulb shining that bright, for a car,a nd there is TWO of them for $80! What the hell :p

I'm glad you've done so much research on the topic.

And I didn't know you could make a projector out of Epsom salts.

Umm, I'm pretty sure they already make LED rear projection TV's. I'm also sure that Projectors are not far behind.

LED backlight
Not only does an LED backlight produce brilliant color, it lasts the life of your TV. This environmentally-friendly DLP TV uses an LED backlight which means there?s no bulb to replace. The long-lasting Generation 2.4 LED consistently outperforms its traditional lamp-based counterparts, delivering outstanding picture quality and continuous light output for over 60,000 hours.

Laser driven is far more feasible than LED driven for front projection. LED just doesn't have the output necessary. As to car lamp for projector use, I am not sure they have the right colour temperature and you think the projector makers want you to not buy their bulb?

Power cycling your lamp isfar more stressful for the lamp than just letting it run. I usually turn it on and leave it on until I am done with it for the night.

PS Please edit the title. It's LED, not LCD.

You pretty much nailed it. The color of light that car bulbs put out is not the same as projector bulbs.

Sorry, edited the thread to show led, dont know why I typed lcd, half asleep I guess.

So if I read right, laser lit projection tvs are going to be the next new thing to come our way some time?

supposed to be available already, but I guess they hit a delay of some sorts. Laser driven DLP RPTV will come out first, to be followed by projector.

eagerly awaiting the price to come down :)

those aren't headlight bulbs. they illuminate the "angel eyes" or the rings around the projectors when the headlights aren't actually on (DRL) i doubt they'd be bright enough for projector use.
