With the prices of Kentsfields dropping later to very low costs, just imagine having a dual q6600 setup.

The PC version of the PS3 :)

Seriously, I would imagine that by the end of the year people may have systems
like this :

Dual Quad
8950 GX2 Sli
^^^

I want one ;)

Not very likely, as CPU's have to be multisocket capable which I'm pretty sure conroe/kentsfield is not. Multi sockets will remain in the server realm and require a multi socket Xeon processor I'm pretty certain.

Correct. Multiple sockets are Xeon only.
However, the Mac Pro is multi-socket, and is considered as a workstation.
A dual socket dual-Quad core CPU Mac Pro is rumored to be available soon.
Dell and HP have their dual-dual core Xeon CPU workstation versions as well.
None are SLI capable, AFAIK.

Won't happen. If you want support for multiple sockets, buy Xeon. Quad-core Xeons are also available.
