Ok what's the deal with Direct X?

I have been told many things about DirX.

Someone told me not to go to DirX v.9+ because my video card isn't optimized for it. Then I have all the other websites telling me that you should update to 9 to keep the drivers optimal.

The 2 cards I am talking about are

GF4 4600Ti 128mb

GF2 MX400 64mb

the GF4 is on 8.1 and the GF2 is on 9.0a. I have been having problems with the GF2 on version 9.0a ... things the GF4 don't have problems with. Both have the latest Det Nvidia Drivers.

anyone know what to do ? Update or "if it works don't change it"?

certain games (such as doom3, homeworld2, halflife2) and other new games will not work unless if you have dx9 installed. It is important to keep directx up to date. However, with drivers, the better idea is "if it aint broke, dont fix it."

I would keep both systems at the latest revision of directx without a doubt. The problems can be due to numerous things, not just directx. Could be the drivers. What kind of problems are you having?

DirectX is more than just graphics: it affects how your games communicate with all your gaming hardware (including keyboard and mouse, if I'm not mistaken). Thus, some games may end up requiring DX9, though most games won't actually use Direct3D 9 features for a while yet. I wouldn't upgrade unless it was necessary, though, and that goes for both DirectX and drivers.

What problems are you having with the GF2MX? Have you tried reinstalling DX9 first, then the latest Dets?
