heh I haven't done this before, but I would kind of like a wide range of opinions here, I'm in a bit of a tight place, not sure what I should do. So here is the story (I will try to be brief)
Basically at my new job I have a boss, who has told me that I am working with another guy (lets call him jay) and that I am supposed to do anything jay needs (I do tech support, I am a+, net+, fwiw) So basically jay thinks I am a total moron, gives me directions to do simple things, then criticizes the way I do them he then says that I really don't know my stuff because I put a computer on the floor to install a NIC (which he claims WILL fry the computer and I am lucky it didn't) However he does not so much as ground himself, but that is a differenct story. He holds no certifications, except a certificate of completion of an nt 4 networking course.
Basically, he is a cool guy to talk to but a total asshat when it comes to work, but this isn't the real problem. The real problem is that he downloads mp3's at work from an mp3 website, onto his work computer, he also has a cracked copy of Longhorn on his computer. Given all of the anti-piracy cases lately, I really think that this opens the department to huge lawsuits, however when I asked my boss to talk to him about ray, he said "your job is to help jay with anything he needs, your job is not to talk to me about jay" and would not allow me to confer my story to him. Jay works for a company that contracts out to the state, the rest of the guys from that company are really cool, and keep it legal, but jay just sits at his desk reading non-work related material or listening to mp3's while I do his work.
Now I don't mind doing his work, I still get paid (although less than half what he is making but no point in complaining about that) however as we share an office, if he ever were to get caught I might be in a position that I don't want to be in (implicated in similar actions) We monitor users for which sites they go to (blocked sites) and make sure none use any illegal software or anything like that, but no one checks the OIT department. What would you do? I never ever snitch, but I just don't know on this one...
/edit for michaeld who cannot be pursuaded to read anything lacking proper paragraphs
/edit2 I work for the Florida Department of Corrections, reporting them to the authorities I don't think would be a great idea heh, might have some consequences, if I were to report him, I would probably do it annonymously to the inspector generals office, dunno what they would do though.
