OK What is with this instability all of a sudden?

My computer is being ultra-evil! It just rebooted by itself when I was trying to have a conversation with somebody online! WTF is that? Boom, reboots. No bugs or errors, just a reboot! And the keyboard is spontaneously stopping working. .. but understandable since I practically ripped the keyboard port off accidentally (long story).

So why would my system be unstable? I'm even running with the case off right now. It's a 450 with a small 50MHz OC. . I ran it at 600 with little problems, os I don't see how 500 will be problematic.. ram is all at stability not speed settings.. so dammit wats goin on!

I'm having keyboard problems too... all of a sudden, I can't type anything. I can either power down and do a cold reboot, or I can hot unplug/resecure the keyboard ps/2 connector, to get it working. I can't figure it out either.

Who knows... sometimes computers are evil.

Maybe just some buggy software somewhere. If it is a rare occurrence then it is nothing to worry about, maybe a temperature problem if summer has kicked in where you live. If it happens all the time then maybe you should consider a fresh format and re-install to eliminate a software issue. Run a few isolated benchmarks to narrow down the culprit

maybe you stepped on the little button on the surge protector unknowingly. I used to do it all the time when i had one on the floor, or foot could have snagged a wire and pulled it out just enough to shut the computer off and then it powered back up when the plug set back in. Just offering some nice non-technical ideas that i have had trouble with before.

Some chips work fine with slight OC but then acts weird later on. Try running it at normal speeds to see if it becomes stable.

Yes, the CPU is stable at 500. It is a K6-III+. My AMD K6-2/350 ran stable at 450. The K6-III+ runs stable at 550.. it is a 450. 500 is fine.

No, there's no surge protector at my feet, it's on the wall, and I can't reboot it by kicking it.

Power supply?
If you got win2000, then try disabling auto-rebooting thing and see what error you get. Two problems may not be related to each other though.
By the way, how did you put the port back into the mtherboard?
And do try to run at original speed first damn it so that you can make sure oc is not the source of problem.

<< 500 is fine. >>

Well if you want to solve the problem I suggest you do as people posted and clock down to default.

Now that summer is here, 500 mhz might not work anymore since you are OCing. It does happen that seasons can make a stable OC into an unstable one and vice versa.

MY rock solid computer has become quite the annoyance lately too. 🙁

We have nasty summers here in minnesota, very high dewpoint, and 90-100 a few of those days.... I just know it's hard on my computer when the A/C is not on........ Before summer everyworks perfect. LOL I suppoer that could be the Minnesota Winter...... look at the bright side I get to see all 4 seasons...to bad one of the seasons takes up 6 months... (winter)

Oh well, I guess I don't know how to fix it besides putting it in a freezer.... 🙂

My guess would be heat or one of your components is about to go out. Which one? You'll find out pretty soon I think. Right before my nic went out (FA311) it did that sort of thing.
