Ok, what is the best HS/F for A64 Socket 754

I was over at newegg, looking at them they had this Thermaltake Venus 12 which looked pretty robust, and a CoolerMaster that looked ok. Any other vendors that sell good ones?

I REALLY like my Thermaltake Silent Boost K8. Very quiet, easy to install, and runs very cool. $25 at newegg last I looked. (+shipping)

I'm looking to make my A64 system more quiet. Will the Thermaltake Silent Boost K8 significantly reduce the noise compared to the stock AMD HSF? or should I just save my $30

Does anyone know the dba rating for the stock HSF for an AMD-64 3200+ ?

OK, but does it matter that I'm using an AGP video card ? and there's no pci slot above the AGP slot. According to the picture, it looks like the pci card needs to have line-of-sight with the HSF

nope, no line of site required. the pci card feeds power to the TEC tho, so it does have a wire running from the pci card to the tec.

I'd also recommend the new Swiftech MCX-6400-V. I bought it but haven't tested it out, but knowing Swiftech's reputation it should be right up there with the best of them.

Ok, I see it... very quiet you say....that sounds good.
21 dba per newegg. And currently $29.99, but free shipping.

While it's a good cooler, I would not go by the 21dBa rating. Assuming you get a model with the Panaflo (which is preferable to the non-Panaflo version) you'll get a M1A which is rated at 28dBa. The L1A which is slower is rated at 21dBa so it's not as quiet as it seems.

That said, I like the Zalman CNPS-7000A 🙂
