Just parts of a computer, you mean?
PSU, Motherboard, CPU (and cooler), RAM, video card (if not onboard), drives, whatever other accessories you want (PCI sound cards, etc.)

Mech's guide, linked above, is also a good place to go read up on this.

You can do better--look at an Asus if you want to go VIA; Epox or MSI if you want nForce3. They're all pretty much the same in performance, so decide on features and price. If OCing, I know the Epoxes can do well, the MSI is supposed to do well (don't know about their VIA board), and I don't know about the A8V.

So what is a good motherboard (the exact one) to get for gaming and has a good sound card on it?

All of them have basically the same onboard Realtek chip that'll give you average quality, which is enough for all but high-end audio equipment. Look into a PCI sound card if you need something else.

since we all seem to be talking about motherboards here, is there a good nForce4 ULTRA board out there yet with AGP support. that chaintech has 3 pci and 3 PCI EXPRESS slots, i need AGP!!!

nForce4 is PCI-express only I believe.

PCIe's the whole reason to get NF4. If you go AGP, you get NF3. It's that simple.

If you need more confirmation for Nick's recommendation, read reviews at Newegg and at other places.

I think it's pretty clear, NF3 and AGP = MSI Neo2 Plat.
NF4 and PCI-e = Chantech VNF4 ultra

Ok here it goes-

Nforce3 Socket 939 (AGP Only)
Best Board - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum or Epox EP-9NDA3+ - $130-$150
Best Budget Board - Epox EP-9NDA3J - $100

VIA K8T800 Socket 939 (AGP Only)
Best Board - ASUS A8V Deluxe (Rev. 2.0) - $130
Best Budget Board - Soltek SL-K8TPro-939 - $115

Personally with your budget, and since you are not going to overclock, I would go with the Soltek. It is a very reliable board, and it is very fast. In most benchmarks, it actually beats the A8V. If you ARE going to overclock, I would go with the MSI Neo2 or the EpoX 9NDA3+. But since you aren't OCing, it doesn't matter.

The best board for you = Soltek SL-K8TPro-939

;)

EDIT - This applies ONLY if you use an AGP graphics card. If you have a PCIe card, consult someone else, for I know little about the Nforce 4 and VIA K8T890 chipsets.

well budget wise, its not a big deal i was debating between the ASUS A8V Deluxe and the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, but i heard lots of ppl complaing about the MSI and having all kinds of problems. but i really wanted to go for the MSI because of the nForce3 Support ! idk this part confuses me =/

Put it this way, the reason you see people having more problems with the MSI is because more people have this board. For instance, if the A8V was declared the best board, you would see people having more problems with the A8V because naturally, more people would buy it if it was the best board. And the more people who had it, the more people would have problems. I guarantee you that the percentage of people having problems with the MSI is the same as those having problems with the ASUS. It's all about ratios. For example if the ratio of problems to each board bought for Asus AND MSI was 10:1, and if 1000 people bought the MSI, that would mean that 100 people would have problems. Now then, say if only 500 people had bought the Asus, only 50 people would have problems. So really, it makes it look as if the MSI is very problematic, but in reality, it is just as problematic as any other board.
