Why is Microsoft hyping Vista as a gaming platform?

I think Hellgate and Crysis both support DX9 and DX10. So you should be able to play them on XP, they'll just look better on vista with DX10.

And run slower I'm sure, assuming you have Vista and your fancy new G80/R600.
I think they just want all the PC gamers to give up in frustration and go out and buy an Xbox.
WTF anyway - Hellgate: London doesn't look *that* good, not that I'd judge it on graphics. The release period has also been all over the place. Let's just turn over our souls to M$ and get it over with.

Yep, some of those games are only available on Vista. Which is why DX10 is going to be adopted very quickly.

that doesnt even make sense. the ONLY reason any game will be a "Vista only" game is if it is DX10 only. we all know Crysis is DX9 compatible so you will be able to play it on Windows XP. they even said the game will be available this fall which is before Vista. use a little common sense before making a crazy post.Originally posted by: SithSolo1
I think Crysis is a Vista only title. Only reason for inclusion of DX9 is probably because a DX9 card will be the minimum required for vista.

Which is what a lot of people might just do, considering an X-Box 360+a HDTV are probably cheaper than Vista+a high end DX10 card.
There's a quote from one of the gaming blogs talking to a DX10 developer saying where basically said that the differences between DX9 and DX10 were so vast that they couldn't get DX10 to run on Windows XP.Originally posted by: meatfestival
Vista: has been redesigned from the ground up. It'll be more stable, secure etc. Will be able to use GPUs as efficiently as they are in games consoles. Even DX9 ones.

who cares it's gonna be THREE years before we see ANY "full DX10" games.
that gives me time to migrate to XP from Win2k. 😛
