Crossfire setup using 3870 video cards...both from same manufacturer.

One is a "standard" 3870 with core clock of 775 and memory clock of 2250.

The other card is an "overclocked" card with a core clock of 850 and memory clock of 2280.

Would this make a difference Crossfiring the two, or would the "faster" card just downclock to match the "slower" of the two cards?

I do know that they will indeed work with each other just fine (and they won't over or under clock), I'm still not sure if there is a performance benefit from having different clocked cards and more specifically if it causes even more trouble with AFR concerning timing issues and micro-stutter.

Maybe someone can enlighten us, what's the point of asynchronous clocks on an AFR CF rig?

As of Catalyst 8.2 you can clock any 2xxx and 3xxx cards individually when in Xfire. As for AFR- nobody has really looked into it but it's not going to be a problem.
