ok to refer to recruiters by their first name only?

I try to be formal with them until I develop a more casual relationship or they tell me to just call them by their first name (usually happens first).

So if I was e-mailing them before they hired me, no, I wouldn't address them by their first name just yet.

I usually just refer to them as they refer to me. If they start out with "James," I'll start out with their first name. If they start with my full name or last name, I do that back.

i always told them to f--- off so i could eat my lunch @ HS. glad i did or i would've been ripe for iraq II, the revenge.

I believe the OP is talking about corporate recruiters not military recruiters you're speaking of. Now go finish your homework. 🙂

I could be wrong but I don't think he had service recruiters in mind.

How did she address you?

Call her by her full name or by Ms. Lastname or Dr. Lastname (or whatever title is accurate.) If she refers to you by your first name in the email, it would not be inappropriate to call her by her first name.
