Ok to install new MB/CPU without reformatting?

I'm about to install my new SB setup into a PC that was previously a LGA1366 setup, and I really would rather avoid reformatting if I can. Will this cause problems for my OS (Win 7 Pro x64)?

Also, is there a way to get rid of all the extraneous old drivers after I'm done installing the new hardware drivers?

There really is no way of avoiding reinstalling the the operating system as Windows will perceive the new mobo and cpu as a new computer. If you still have the keycode from the original install of Win 7, it shouldn't be a problem. Just call Microsoft and a tech should help you through a reactivation of your OS. By reinstalling, windows will update all the new drivers, chipsets etc. on the new board. You shouldn't need to reformat and windows will keep all the files on your HD.

But if you don't have time to do the reinstall, more likely than not, Windows will still work with the hardware swap. In the long run though, do the clean install on the new hardware.

Thanks for the info all, I got it working a couple days ago just like you said. I'm content with things the way they are for now, but I'm sure I'll do a fresh install in a few months.
