Ok To Get RAID Just For Extra IDE Controllers?

Is it a good idea to get a RAID motherboard even if you don't plan to use RAID? Does a RAID motherboard mean you get extra IDE controllers over the non-RAID version of the motherboard that can be used for more drives (CD-ROM, CD/RW, DVD, etc).

ALMOST. Yes, you can certainly use RAID ports for "extra IDE" offerings. However, I believe you can only use them for HDD's; not for optical drives. I have no doubt that someone will correct me if I'm wrong though.
