some cheeses can be frozen, others will seperate into a nasty mess upon thawing

you'll probably just have to try it and see what happens

Is a gallon bulk? That's only 8 pounds.

I would think no, considering to open that can, you expose it to outside air.

Get a Vaccusaver and put it in cannisters!

I'm guessing it's the cheap stuff. It probably won't separate, but to be sure, stir it while you reheat it. The problem is that if air gets in the bag, the moisture in the air will cause crystals to form on the frozen cheese. When you re-heat it, you'll end up with water in your cheese. Probably not enough to screw it up, but maybe enough to cause it to have cheese with some water in it. Just reheat on a lower power setting and stir every 30 seconds. Try to put it in a glass bowl when you reheat in the microwave....don't reheat it in the plastic. Plastics and microwaves aren't good combinations, even if they're "microwave safe". (toxins are released from the plastics)

I would open it inside.

Nice.:D

And I agree, if 10 lbs isn't bulk, 8 lbs CERTAINLY isn't bulk.

out come the lifers to debate proper use of the word "bulk"

I know you can freeze regular cheese, but nacho...I'm not sure with all the extra stuff in it. My advise would be go ahead and try it. At 5.68, are you really loosing anything if it fails. If you by chance are familiar with canning (mason jars), you could probably put it up that way.

It'll be fine, if it's the type of processed nacho cheese substance I think it is.

Is that stuff any good? I too am a fan of the nacho cheese, yet I'm always hesitant to buy those big cans for fear that the stuff will taste nasty.

Why can't you just put it in smaller ziploc containers in the fridge?

it's probably the same quality as you get from the movie theater when you get the nachos and cheese.

I'm just posting like everyone else does in here and nothing ever happens to them. Why me?

Bump for no reason........ YAY.

EDIT: I'll stick with 5 bumps. I've seen people get away with a lot more, but this is the limit.
Five bumps within four minutes is really pushing the boundaries. Prepare for the banstick.

El Rio is the best that I've had. Though I'm not sure you can obtain it in Gallon size.
What brand was the one you saw at Sam's Club?

The annswer to you first question is yes.
As long as you've tried the cheese and like it, buy the big size and freeze/reheat it.

I've done it before, but in Rubbermaid containers.

i got a big can of nacho cheese before and it was good. it's the same stuff they use at this one restaurant i go to sometimes. It goes great with their fries!
I only refirgerated it and that was a mistake because I couldn't eat it fast enough. ended up throwing away half the can.

I consider any amount of food that My family or I can't eat in a reasonable amount of time to be bulk.

I've bought the same cheese before at sams, and I'd always get through half of the can and it starts growing hair. So, in my eyes, that is bulk.

What I would do is seal in in several containers and then if you have room in your freezer put the several smaaller container into a large one, so there are 2 layers of protection.

Well... bulk is dependent on the item I would have to say, when you eat nacho cheese you probably only use it in small quantities like, maybe 1/10 of a pound, so 8 pounds would be 80 servings, I would classify that as bulk.
