OK to delete folders under Windows?

Guys,

Running XP Pro SP1, fully patched. I've noticed that under my Windows folder under C: drive that there's a series of compressed (that's what the blue color denotes, right?) folders that surely seem to belong to Windows Update files. If my system is running fine is it OK to remove these folders? Do they serve any purpose being on my HD?

TIA,

Jeff

P.S. I did a search for files in this group and didn't find anything relevant to my question.

Those are the security updates installed. If you want to uninstall one then use add remove programs. DO not delete those files.

I believe that they are just backups of the files that the security updates replace. They allow you to uninstall hotfixes from Add/Remove Programs.

Why do you want to delete them? They don't take up very much room.

why would you want to remove anything in your windows directory?

I've often wondered the same thing. On my computer, they eat up more than 113 MB -- on my 20G harddrive that's nearly full, that's not insignificant. They're called $NtUninstallQxxxxxxx$.

113 MB is 0.5 percent of your harddrive space. If your harddrive is nearly full, I would probably look in other areas for space saving opportunities.
