Hey all,

Maybe it's just because I watched Red Planet last night, and I just saw this commercial right after, but I think I've noticed a lot of this idea lately:

The CLEAR pieces of glass that display computer images/interfaces.... Do you know what I'm talking about? If you've seen RP you do. They had these thin little plexi-glass-looking gizmos that were little computer screens. Everything you could imagine needing to see, they had on those things. --And you could see right through them.
-And I just saw a commercial for some wireless company, where EVERY DEVICE was nothing more than a little piece of glass with a display on it. --And you could see right through it. STUPID!!!!! FSCKING STUPID!!!! Yeah, oooooooh, it looks all COOOOOOL and FUUUUTURIIIIIISTIIIIIIIC. OOOOOOOOH. But it's DUMB! You wouldn't be able to really SEE anything unless you held it up against a dark, solid background! Anything light or busy, and your beautiful little FUTURE-interface would DIS-A-FREAKING-PEAR! Damn. Why do futuristic speculations have to be so DUMB? IMO, the clear little panes of glass for monitors is MORE ridiculous than flying cars!

Boy, I guess you have to be known for your rants here or write the words "meaningless amusing rant" for people not to think you are seriously upset when you amuse yourself with a meaningless rant. Do you people actually think you know something about me, or what exactly?

Crab, HUD's are for overlaying info over something you'r supposed to be looking at. These devices are claming to be PRIMARY display devices. WHO would give up their opaque screen on their monitor for simply a "heads up" display of their computer overlayed over the image of their bedroom wall? Hmmmmmmmm.....

Of course I know HUD's exist. I've driven cars with HUD's. But a PDA with a clear screen and nothing behind? That's TRULY a palm, because that's all you would see. And this guy kept moving his flat panel monitor around in the commercial. Presumably, he was doing it just to show how flexible the thing was, and that it was so portable and light an convenient. --But in real life, the reason he would be moving it would be just to find the background that conflicted least with what he was trying to see on the stupid thing.

Hmmmm. Yeah. I'll keep that in mind. Or not. If someone doesn't know me, it's because they haven't been around as long as I. Not the other way around. Besides, it should probably be assumed that something written like that is a rant. I know I would assume that before I assumed the author was about to blow his brains out over a damn commercial. ;)

Imagine this: playing a flight similator game with a HUD, but there a person in front of you playing the same flight similator... HUD within a HUD within a HUD... lol

Anyway, i agree, those things are stupid but cool.

IMHO i thought it was cool in the movie RP. Not ever realistic, but the idea was cool. :D
