OK, the million dollar question.

What is the best memory to use with a Abit NF7-S and XP 2500+.

I am hoping to OC to 200 FSB. If I can get that I will be a happy camper, so DDR3200 should be good enough. I'm thinking of getting 2 x 512MB and run dual channel. I would like to spend ~$85 or so (each).

Thanks,

J

I am using Corsair XMS DDR400 in dual channel on a Abit NF7-S 2.0 and can get 200FSB. Not one MHz more though.

If you haven't purchased the 2500+ yet then think about getting the Mobile 2500+

Look at the Mushkin Level One PC3500, it should be around your price range, maybe a little more, but will do a great job!

I recently thought on this and I ended up paying $92 from newegg for kretin 3500. I don't know if it was a better buy than a more recognized brand, but I was attracted to the 3500 number (BTW same mobo and cpu), and I thought that with 3500 at least I will not have to overclock the ram, since the cpu will end up being the bottleneck on overclocking before the ram, or pretty close anyway.

It sounds as though the mobile 2500 is more overclockable than the desktop 2500. Is there any downside, other than the price difference (~$20)?

No downside to the mobile chips, they have a much lower voltage 1.25 to 1.65 of the desktop version. so its very cool and OC's good and I belive they are unlocked as well.
