Anyone else wondering where all the supposed cool stuff the future was going to bring has gone? Where are the jet packs? Where are the pills that would be like eating a steak dinner? Where is the laptop that is thin, fast, lasts forever, and does everything? Where are the cars that drive themselves?

Dammit, I want some cool stuff! :)

What other stuff can you guys think of that isn't here yet...

It's bad enough bringing all the worlds outcasts together on internet forums.
We have more technology than we need.

The thing keeping us from the majority of the things you mention is;

Energy. Well, rather, the lack of sources for it.

Yes, everyone knows all of this stuff is much more important than ridding the world of hunger, AIDs, and cancer..

i've seen the cars that can drive themselves on Discovery or the Learning channel a while ago. Most of the stuff you mentioned, though, would probably be pushed down due to legislation. Can you see the politicians reacting to a jet pack, or the food industry buying votes to outlaw the steak dinner pill? I can.

The world turns where there is money to be made, and most of the time starving people with AIDS don't have it. Altruism does not drive technological advancement, profit does.

Hey, we have cell phones. That's kind of like the future.

And I order stuff from my living froom that a few days later shows up at my front door, paid for with a series of numbers corresponding to an account I have at a credit institute.

That's a lot more advanced than taking green pieces of paper to a store, trading them for an item and then shipping the item home myself. It's the future, man!

I know what you mean about the rocket packs, though....

Are you kidding? Am I the only one who thinks I am in Futureworld every time I use a bathroom with auto-flushing toilets and automatic faucets?

Yeah those things are unreal.

Are you being serious or sarcastic? I know it sounds stupid, but I always feel like I'm in the future whenever I go into a bathroom equipped with these. :D

No, I'm serious. The only place I've seen them is at the air port and it gives me the willies still. :Q

A guy a couple towns away got a Segway. He got it because he has some lung disease and he can't really walk around anywhere. It's a pity that a lot of cities are trying to ban them.
