Ok, that's nasty -- killed a spider on the stairs and about 20 little ones popped out

Still, that's was not something I wanted to see in my house. I hope there aren't more loaded spiders around, especially since my dog likes to eat them! :Q

Spiders bite? I have an assload of daddylonglegs in my house. I hate them, but there's nothing we can do about them but keep killing them. Then they keep coming back because my dad leaves the doors open in the summer (I tell him that's what windows are for!)

If i would be a spider living in a world of giants i would make it my priority not to be seen, maybe the spider should of thought of that.... and her children!

certain kinds do, daddylonglegs do not.

I think the spider might have been dead and "feeding its young". It didn't move when I went near it, and the manner in which they "exploded" from the host made me think the big one was already food.

I'm fairly certain that daddylonglegs aren't technically spiders, and they definitely don't bite. My wife was bitten by a spider at work years ago. Her hand became very swollen, she got woozy, and they took her to the ER. The funny part is that she only told me "I was bitten by a spider at work today" and left out the part about the ER until about three years later. Silly woman.

wrong

actually most do...

the daddylongleg is the most poinsonous spider in terms of concentration...luckily its fangs are not strong enough to puncture human skin...they can only puncture really small bugs and stuff

for your safety, you need to tear your house down and rebuild it, otherwise you will be eaten alive at night be baby spiders.

Uhhh, that's a common misconception:
There are thwo "types" of daddy longlegs (what people refer to them as):
One is actually a spider, one is a harvestman....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daddy_longlegs

There is an urban legend stating that daddy long-legs spiders have extremely toxic venom, but their fangs cannot penetrate human skin. However there is no reliable research on the effects of pholcid venom in mammals, so any statement about their toxicity is just speculation. Additionally, pholcids do have a short fang structure (called uncate), but so do brown recluse spiders which can penetrate human skin and deliver potentially dangerous necrotoxin [1]. In 2004 the Discovery Channel show MythBusters set out to test this myth (season 1, ep. 13 Buried in Concrete). One of the show's hosts was bitten, and the bite produced little more than a mild shortlived burning sensation.

Same here. I use RAID once a month, and I usually find them dead. But they can get big and nasty in my neck of the woods. THIS ONE was the biggest one I have found in my apartment.
