Wednesday I left work early due to stomach and intestinal pain. I thought for sure it was gas due to the chili I had earlier in the day. The pain was intesnse so I ended up going to the ER. After sticking various things up my a$$ and taking a CT they figured out my appendix was shot.

After spending the night in a morphine haze I had surgery and ended up in a private suite at the hospital. Good stuff, great room. Two days without smoking and I only got to eat an omlet in three days, which was made wrong.

The sucky part is that as of 5/1 I became uninsured. Its funny how these things work out. My new insurance doesn't kick in till 6/1 so now I have to pay for the whole thing.

So I have a couple days on the couch then a few days not before I can go back to work. Vicodin, Water, and light food in my future.

Been there. It's not fun... they left my wound open to heal, so I had lots of fun afterwards too, packing the wound with saline soaked gauze.

Lemme tell you, you've never lived until you can say that you've stuck your own fingers into your own side and touched muscle.

Escape from the hospital and skip the bill. You should've faked your identity upon entrance to the hospital.

There are two remote options out there. The silly part is that I intentionally cancelled my insurance thinking that my new job picked up this month, when actually it is next month.

So they said I can cancel my termination of service (option1). Or I can (have) applied for MNCare (Minnesota's welfare insurance).

I had to goto the ER twice while uninsured. It cost me thousands of $$$, even after talking them down on the bill.

I hope one of those come through for you. Otherwise........

Exactly, since you are un-insured, say hello to non-contractual ER/Surgery/Radiology/etc rates. You'll be lucky if they are even close to UCR rates. Ime has a great point though, you can try to talk them down. See if you can get a hold of some other bills from people you know with insurance and try to negotiate based on that. It is a long shot, but well worth a try.

Edit: I can't spell

Illegals go to ER everyday and stiff the hospitals...what's keeping you from doing the same? Did you give them your SS#?

Yup. They have all of my info. I don't think the idea of shafting them ever came to mind. Its my fault I didn't have insurance, therefor its my responsibility to find a way to pay for it. They treated me VERY well even though they knew I didn't have insurance, they deserve to get paid.

Kinda like how the warranty runs out just before your purchase breaks. That must've been some powerful chili. =0þ

Good luck on the paying.
