As I was moving my computer equipment into the other room to finish setting up my home lan. I dropped my Palm PDA (yeah its only a M100, but still). The case popped apart, etc... Sorry no pics. I was able to put it back together and it was unharmed.

Anyone else with a computer related horror story to tell?

I have dropped my M100 about 20 times now, once down a few concrete stairs, and it still works. that is some strong plastic. As for computer horror stories... how about static shocking a Athlon 1ghz just because you handled it wrong? that was a huge bummer for me, though it was an excuse to upgrade...

My computer hates me. It's an evil bastard of a computer. It makes the keyboard stop working when it wants to, and sometimes even the mouse too. And when I go to unplug them and plug them back in, it shocks me! MY COMP SHOCKED ME TWICE! it did so without harming itself. :| bastard computer...

No...but my cell phone's given me a couple scares

Once, it fell out of my pocket at the top of a lecture hall and procdeeded down a good twenty concrete stairs. It was in pieces so I put it together and it worked...no harm done.

It's also fall out and straight into the beach off of Carmel...again, no harm done

I (read: my father) once ran an Athlon 700 without a heatsink..... for about 30 seconds. When I brought it back upstairs, I wondered at the black smoke and burned PCB smell emanating from my case.

I have three times so far spilled super glue on video cards. That was a big "Oh Sh|t!!"

lol I got one... I was a compu-n00b and started to build a comp. On the back of the psu it had a switch... 115V and 220V or something to that sort... I thought more power = faster comp... Damn me... Well I put everything together, gave it some juice and poof! I hear sparks and smoke was coming out from the hard drive. One of the chips on the hard drive melted the rubber covering (If you owned a seagate drive you probably know what I'm talking about). Had to rma the hdd and yeah that learned me...

As I was using my computer one time (I have about 15 devices connected to my APC300 UPS) :p everything in my apartment went off. My computer screeched and then came back on. I thought I blew up my computer or something.

I was doing this to my tbird. While holding the bird I touched my hand on the soldering iron (hot) which caused me to jerk back and throw my tbird a few feet against a cardboard box :Q

I had some wires that connected to the speakers inside a tv set to hook up to the aux on a stereo so I could get the signal to them. Then I had this wonderful idea of hooking my computer up to the same stereo. Unfortunately, the wires to the TV speakers were not isolated from the TV (hence they were carrying 115v). Oblivious of this, when I went to plug the line into the sound card, and right as I got near to the back of the case: PZZZZZTTT!

There is still a mark left on the back of my computer.

I didn't get shocked, and my computer took it, but it toasted the TV. $100+ worth or repairs. :(

I pushed my computer onto its side very hard and it lived.

Actually, I was rolling it and it got off balance and fell on its side and made a very bad kerplunk sound, anyways, when I tried to boot it up it wouldn't work.

So I opend the case and jiggled everything and it worked fine after that.
