Here is the skinny. My Main Rig (specs below) suits me fine for all my needs - gaming, work, internet. I have no real "need" that has to be addressed, but, as most of you can relate to, I get the itch every few months that needs to be curtailed. Here are my specs below:

CPU - Pentium IV 2.4b Ghz (533 FSB)
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-8SQ800
Monitor - 21" Viewsonic G810 CRT
Memory - 1 GB Crucial PC2700 DDR (running in Dual Channel Mode)
Video - Sapphire ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
Sound Card - Onboard Realtek AL650 Codec
Speakers - Creative Soundworks
PSU - Antec Smart Power 400Watt
CDRW - Lite-On 52x24x52
Mouse - Logitech MX300
HDD (1) - Maxtor 80GB (2MB Cache/7200 RPM/ATA133)
HDD (2) - Maxtor 20GB (2MB Cache/7200 RPM/ATA66)
NIC - Netgear FA311 (10/100)
Floppy - Standard TEAC
Keyboard - Generic Wireless
Router - Linksys BEFSR41
Gamepad - Gravis Gamepad Pro (USB) / Sony DS2 Controller (USB Adapter)
Scanner - CanoScan N676U
Printer - HP Deskjet 960C
O/S - Windows XP Home Edition (SP1)

As stated, I frequently run into the need to want to buy something to make it better, and this runs it course every month or so! I need you guys to talk me out of this. I know that my rig does not stutter when I play all of the recent games, and yes there are potential upgrades that I could look into (better HDD/SATA/Raid configs, better Sound, etc), but I do not "need" them per se. Please, all, help me calm these urges. Honesty will be appreciated.

 
well look at your credit card bills then rethink

or read some car mags and start saving for the subaru Sti...

or think what Mr.T will call you if he visits this forum.

everything is fine, just don't freak out when a frame is dropped on some games

Save your money...your rig is about twice the speed of mine so you have nothing to complain about. I'd upgrade if I had the money...🙁

Whoa, I'm still running my Pentium 3 500Mhz, 256MB PC100 sdram, rest of the specs in sig. I have the urge to upgrade every day when I boot the damn thing up, but then i remember, i'm broke! I'd say your computer is like 4 times faster than mine! But I have a 8MB cache on my 80GB!
 
Sound onboard??!? STANDARD FLOPPY!?!?

Upgrade man, before newegg sells out of special floppy drives, the kind that write to disks that are big as you can imagine! it's the truth! HURRY!

You need a laser printer and a 52x32x52x CDRW. And a DVD+/-RW. 😛

Or you could just donate some money to charity to get a tax deduction next year.
 
You could take up case modding maybe, if you haven't already. It can feel like an upgrade without really being much of one.
 
If you really have the itch that needs to be scratched get a better sound card...other than that I wouldn't touch that rig...

or buy a new game or two...

 
you know, every time i want to upgrade i find something else to do rather than surfing newegg

so go play some ball, get a drink, or go catch a baseball game

or spend that dough in some new video games....

better yet go hunt some OMAX or compusa freebies

i spent $300 that way... oh well im expecting to getting it back!
 
If you listen to a lot of music I say get a new soundcard...other than that you really are fine and don't need it. And if you really have the urge start some kind of "prizes" compeitition on AT where you buy people free hardware 😉
