OK, I've been thinking about building a tivo-like device, and I've read all the threads on this topic, but one thing is stopping me from actually doing it...

If I capture some video, like a movie or something, how can I play it on tv when friends come over or something? You know, it's kind of lame to be watching it on the little computer screen instead of the big screen. Is there something on the video capture card that can send output to tv?

(a related question is, could I get rid of the monitor altogether and use the tv for everything? It would be nice not to have another monitor next to the tv, just hide the computer and keyboard, etc, and only see the tv. It's kind of hard to hide a monitor)

Sorry to ask, but why not just buy a TiVo?

I'd like to be able to edit the video, have a little more control over it than a tivo can do (as far as I understand). Also, I think they're still kind of expensive, I have an old computer w/ a big hard drive, and I would just need to get a video card ($50).
