Forget pyramid, drop sets, etc. just talking bench press: #1 if working out alone you will need to use dumbbells IMHO #2 use dumbbells anyway. #3 shoot for 8-10 reps on average, but do each set until failure. #4 4 sets of anything is plenty. (1 warmup set of 15-20 is smart in the beginning)
