Ok, so who has the No 1 defense in the NFL?

This is so confusing. Sometimes they say Dallas has no 1 defense, sometimes the Titans, then the Bucs, then now the Patriots or Panthers. Who the heck officially has/had the no 1 defense this season? Is there a official saying or do the announcers just make this up every game?

I think during the regular season, Dallas had the best defense in terms of yards allowed, though I could be wrong. I think people are arguing about New England and Carolina because they are last teams left.

P.S. - Go Pats!

Yeah throughout the season it was the cowboys.

But what actually is the definition of #1 defense? Is it yards allowed or is there more to it then that?

I mean what if a defense allows less yards then all the rest but due poor field position gave up a lot more points.

In points allowed, it is the Pats, in yards, it's the Cowboys. I personally view points as more important.

I would agree. It's hard to judge the #1 defense and it depends a lot of if you count yards, points, wins, difference in yards, etc. Some D's that are really good would give up a decent amount of yards especially if their offense is really good, they get way ahead, and put on the "prevent defense". In this case they might give up quite a few yards. Plus how can you measure things like, intimidation, agression, etc. I would say the top 3 defenses that people would least like to face due to schemes and punishing hits would be (in no order): New England, Carolina, Baltimore...honorable mentions to Dallas, Tampa Bay.

Then they really shouldn't say who is the no 1 defense, etc. Kinda stupid.

the main reason the cowboys give up more points is because their Offense isn't NEAR as good as the Pats. Time of possession is important also.

that's why Dallas's D looks soo good to me, they did it with an offense that wasn't very good. (ok, horrible)
