Ok so what printer for a small office?

I'm looking for a laser printer for a small office.

Printing requirements are not that great but I'm looking for something that can do about 1500 pages a month high reliability etc.

What would be a plus is if it can take paper from 3 different trays. Also something that could also print checks so something with a variable tray?

I was looking at the HP 5000 series but could really do with some advise.

Right now it looks as if its only going to be connected to one machine but a network jack would be nice but not required.

Thanks guys I'll keep bumping this up as I really want to get this done in the next 14 hours.

*edit* wanted to say that I'm looking for a printer that wont go spastic and start taking 2+ sheets from the print tray even though it only needs one and then messes up the job. 😉

FYI the sheets we are printing on are mainly letterheads so something that can handle paper that is slightly thicker than the std laser printer would be good.

We have been using an HP 4000 TN in my office for years. It is reliable, print quality is good and print speed is reasonable. We haven't had any problems with it and it gets pretty heavy use (though I don't know the monthly page counts, sorry). I don't know what toner costs run, but it also has an available duplexer, which can be nice, but I don't know if you need that feature. The only drawback is that I think it may only take two trays in addition to manual feed. Anyway, good luck!

Thanks for the replys fellas.

I did think about Xerox but unfortunately in the part of the world I am in right now HP rules the laser printing market and the high costs of there toners make them an unattractive buy. I think I'm going to spend the next couple of hours scouring the HP website.

Unless you need the wide format capability of the 5000, the extra cost is hard to justify. Unlike the 4xx0 series, the 5000 cannot have a maintenance kit user-installed, so maintenance can be a hassle as well.

Have you considered a 4100TN or DTN if you want duplex capability? You can have a total of four trays (one fold down manual tray, plus three drawers). PM me your e-mail address & I can send you some documents on the media handling capability.

I think I pretty much decided on the 4100 series. Just waiting on some pricing info back from my suppliers for the different models.
