ok, so what HD upgrade should i pursue?

choices:
1) upgrade my notebook drive from a 40gb 5400rpm to a 60gb 7200rpm
2) add a raptor to my system (currently a 250gb 7200rpm 8mb WD drive)


earlier:
i'd like to put this 60gb 7200rpm in my dell x300 to replace the 40gb 5400rpm drive.

is this possible?

Yes it should fit (Height (mm): 9.5)

You will need to use the tray/adapter from the drive in the dell now

almost all laptops now take 9.5mm thick 2.5" HDs, possible issues are:
- heat: moving from 4200 - 5400 up to 7200 rpm adds heat, which might overload the cooling system
- size >32 GB - older BIOS might only support up to 32 GB

hmm, this might be an issue - the x300 is the newest dell ultraportable (.86"). heat might definitely be a concern for me.....darn and i got excited

Check Dell's config-o-matic to see if they offer a 60 GB / 7200 option, if they do then you know the cooling is up to it.

later on over hte summer, i'm gonna get that 60gb 7200rpm laptop drive. u can get one at newegg for about $235 or so
