When I try to power on the computer nothing happens.

When I turn the power switch on the PSU off and then on, the POST code display on the Mobo shows an "F." when before it used to show a 0.0

When I then try to turn the computer on, absolutely nothing happens.

I dont know much aobut that postcode and what it means, I think it simply describing some kind of failure.

I had trouble getting the system to turn on in the past, but then I got it to work. I would have to turn the swithc on the psu off, turn it back on, and wait for about 3 minutes. If I waited and then tried to turn the PC on it would do so. If I tried to turn the PC on rightaway without waiting 3 minutes it would give power for a split second and then turn off. It was almost like it needed to warm up before I could turn it on this was my friends computer and it used to work great for him.

I had been using it like that for about 1 month, and now it seems that it has had it. what is the problem? the PSU? the Mobo? the Case?

Here is a thread that I posted earlier today

Thank you and Happy New Year

I had this exact same problem yesterday. The solution might be simpler than you think.

Make sure everything is plugged in properly. A wrongly-installed IDE or floppy cable can prevent power-up. So can improperly rigged front USB ports. If necessary, remove everything that isn't absolutely necessary to post.

Then break out your motherboard manual and locate the CMOS reset jumper. Change it. Change it back. Make sure this change happens after your last attempt to boot.

Once you verify that the board will post, plug everything back in.

In my case, I had overclocked my board, and when I tried to swap out one floppy drive for another the system wouldn't reboot. I needed to reset my CMOS to clear the overclock. You are probably experiencing something similar.

I very much doubt you have any bad hardware.

ok the PSU is an Antec NEO480

Now check it out... when I turned the PSU switch on like I said that "F." appeared on the Post COde Display. I went and had dinner... came back about an hour later. the "F." turned into a 0.0 and now it turned on and booted.

I havent turned it off yet because I need to do some stuff on this computer tonight, but I'm gonna test it again later.

What could this be due to? Why does it seem to have to "charge up" before it will actually power on? THis time it took a lot longer. Is it the PSU or the Mobo? I have never heard of this.

btw I have checked all cables multiple times, I've already removed 1394 and USB cables, audio cables, led cables, I've removed the floppy and anything superfluous. I cleared the Cmos a while back in the hope that it would stop that having to "charge up" issue, it did nothing.

THanks for your comments.

Thankx

Bad capacitors in either the motherboard or PSU can cause those symptoms. The Neo isn't known for these type of failures but the Smart and True Power are.

Holy crap...I just opened my Antec SmartPower 2.0 350W and the caps are burst and leaking. I thought it was just a wrong connection...

Thank goodness I have a spare--the Ultra V-Series 400W that was free after $25 MIR from Frys.

Well my Neo 480 failed and it decided to take my motherboard and video card with it. this is the 2nd HARD failure I've had with Antec's and decided that was my last one. I now own a new Corsair 620W PSU.
