I got redhat 8.0 now, and i cant install it. It gets to the installation of the anaconda installation eninge thing, and hangs there forever with no HD activity.... I have installed mandrake and used it before and NEVER had this much troulble.

Can someone help me.

I usually go with the mirrors operated by government agencies. I get anything from 150KB/s to 200KB/s.

All of the linux programs I ever bought turned out useless when I tried to install them. They were plagued with compatibility issues or some bug somewhere. Thank God they were for free after rebate, so my money wasn't wasted with the OSes still sitting there because I can't install them and there's hardly much help available.

Wrong forum.

I know that, I want help now, i dont fell like waiting 3 days since most people are on vacation, and the majority of people are in OT anyway.

Did you try looking through that forum for suggestions? If you had you might have seen a complaint or two about not providing us with enough information.

If this had been posted in the correct forum, instead of acting like a selfish child and doing it your way instead of the correct way, I would have postedd better information 🙂

Well i have install mandrake many, many, many, times and never had 1 problem. But i wanted to try out redhat for a few reasons. And i have downloaded the disks 3 times from 3 different places, and have yet to get past that screen except once. I got to select my packages i wanted to install then it froze there for 30 mins after i clicked next, so i got frustraded and rebooted.

Most of the Linux retail versions come with phone support for a limited amount of time. The internet is full of information. The AT forums has a nice selection of Linux FAQs (in the correct forum 😉).

Luckily Microsoft software never has incompatibilities or bugs... Right?

Here it is posted in the correct forum.....

I wasent acting like a selfish child, its just i was going to be leaving soon and wanted to get this working.
With all the useless crap that is posted in OT my petty little post shouldnt deteriorate it anymore than it already is.

If you dont mind since I followed the rules, and posted it in the correct forum, can you please tell me what other info you need to aid me?

Thanks,
Josh

"Well i have install mandrake many, many, many, times and never had 1 problem."

I guess that's the only linux program that I've not tried installing. With your positive posts, I'll probably try the Mandrake that I still have at the moment.

Go with 8.2 or 9.0, dont bother with anything older.

According to their site, the installer has the option of testing the integrity of the install media. Some people have been reporting install problems from bad burns. You might also check bugzilla/redhat for Anaconda bugs that relate to your hardware.

The installer has a built-in ability to test the integrity of the install media. It works with the CD, DVD, hard drive ISO, and NFS ISO installation methods. It is recommended to test all install media before installation and before reporting any installation issues. To use this test, type linux mediacheck at the boot: prompt.
If you have a problem with installation, test your install media before reporting a bug. A significant number of the issues reported are from badly burned CD. Also, when entering an installation bug, select the anaconda component.
