OK, so it is going to be Prom night (senior in high school)

... which is on April 5, about two weeks away.

I still haven't got a date. Right now I'm supposed to go in a group of about 8 other friends. My best friend and I have dreamed for a year or so about driving a nice vehicle to the dance, taking our date and whatever friends, etc, with us. Well... his mom is thinking about renting an SUV for him to drive to prom... maybe a Suburban or Expedition, etc. Well... my entire high school life has basically been terrible, and I just want this ONE night to go 'perfectly' - which I know it won't, but I want to try nonetheless.

So my question is how I shall drive to prom. Including me and my (possible) date, that will make 10 (five couples). I checked all the car rental websites... and all of them say that you have to be at least 25 to rent a vehicle. 🙁 I'm going to see if I can find anyone I know to loan me a nice vehicle... but I severely doubt it.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to my dilema? Advice? Anyone know of a rental company that allows drivers under 25 or 21? I'm 18.

As for those of you who will say just get over it, move on, grow up, etc, please don't say it. I've heard it before, and I'll hear it again.

Have everybody pool their money and get a limo.

If not pool your money and rent a U-haul truck and decorate the inside and put couches and stuff inside and have somebody drive for you.

steal a bus, then rob a liquor store, then go to the prom. everyone will want a ride on the party bus.

I guess I'm missing something about the whole prom thing. Why the hell does everyone have to have all the things that they don't normally have to consider the night perfect? I'm in high school, most of the people I know who went to prom last year said it was awful, and the number one reason was because everyone acted/was so fake......
I don't mean to flame or anything, its just on my mind.

I would also go the Limo route...

However, proms nowadays are just the 10minute meeting place to find out where the party's at..

Well... how much is a Limo? Also, we're planning on going to dinner on the north side of Columbus, but the prom is about 50-60 miles south of there. I'm not sure that we could do that because of cost... Furthermore, I've always wanted to drive there... a very weird dream/wish, but I want to drive my friends there. Oh well... we'll settle for something.

As for the prom actually being a 10 minute meeting place... well... that's about 1/2 right, lol. My friends and I are going for a while, but just to 'make an appearance'. Afterwards, we will probably want to go back to my house and watch a movie on a bigscreen TV. Either there, or to the mall, or something else. We're definitely not going to stay at the prom all that long.

And as for colt45... I know people that own buses, I've had training to drive them, but I'm not EVEN about to do that. No chance whatsoever 😉

Konigin... I really don't know. Allan and I have just always wanted to have a good senior prom. I went last year too, and it was horrendous. We're only going to say that we were there... Allan and I pretty much 'have' to be there at some point, because we're both school employees. Allan's also on the counsel of Presidents (although we're best friends, he's always superior to me... he's president and I'm secretary and treasurer 🙁 )

Anywayz...

Go for the limo. That way all yall can pretend like you have class. I'm more worried about the date factor rather than a ride thru town. What good is wheels when you arent...err...nm...

Yeah, we could pretend that we have class. Then again, I normally drive a 2002 Buick Regal... good enough for most.

As for the ride, I'm more concerned about it because I also have to transport friends with me. I place my friends before myself most of the time.

Yes, I do want a date... I don't care at this point if it's male or female... I'll take either. If female, my friends will be surprised. If male, the entire school besides my friends will be surprised.

lol

At my prom, we were far too intoxicated most of the night to even consider operating a motor vehicle or heavy machinery. The limo idea works well.

first get a date....ask around.....i just asked fearlessly..finally nabbed on...aha....once in a lifetime man..whocares, just ask around like mad........and also in HS....tolerance is very low.....so stay in the norm until college, then there's tons of support groups and understanding people....

Elemental007... we're not going to be intoxicated... at least early enough that we will still need to drive or operate heavy machinery.

Yeah, I'll prolly ask around for the next few days. Actually, my high school is rather liberal, and tolerance is rather high... at least with my friends, administration, and all staff members. It's amazing. Yeah... I try to stay in the norm, but that's hard for me to do most of the time. Oh well... I cope. I'm also depressed a lot tho too. I'm sure there's a proportional correlation.

Did you try the local rental places? Many are on the shady side but they will allow you to rent if you have a drivers license, you may have to have your parents rent it for you then add you as a driver.

Limos last time I checked would have run me about $300 or so for the night. But this was near Boston so it might be cheaper around you.

I agree, WinkOsmosis.

I'm gonna try them in a couple of days. Just started thinking about this a lot today.
Just recalculated the math... it'll be about 100 miles total, if it picks us up where we want to, takes us to the prom, and then brings us back...

I also suggest a limo......a really REALLY nice one (brand new model, the works) shouldn't cost more than like 30 or 40 a person, and you just get to cruise around in it for a while....if you have big companies around you, they might have the stretch Hummers or Navigators (maybe a stretch Corvette or two?)

Go all out, sounds like you want it to go really well, so don't skimp anywhere, you won't get the chance again. The dance itself will probalby suck, but doesn't mean everything else has to. 🙂

Granted, my senior prom was spent with my ex, which made the evening better than I had possibly imagined. (No, we didn't do, and yeah, I know you're thinking it. 😉)

conform..get a limo...as for me, in high school i did not go to prom, instead i took a girl to the beach and we had a bonfire....in my opinion...was a lot better than prom...i dont regret it one bit!

I drove an '87 Dodge pickup to senior prom, and still had a good time. (as good a time as can be had at a school function anyway)

Ahahahaha.. I read this as PORN night! 🙂

Ask a good friend to loan you a car or ask a good soccer mom friend type to lend you her minivan.
